IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan Jane
Burgess
February 10, 1947 – April 14, 2024
Susan "Suky" Jane Burgess, age 77, of Wyalusing, PA passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024 surrounded by her loving family at her home.
Suky was born on February 10, 1947 in Sayre, PA the daughter of the late Dennis G. (d. August 8, 1956) and Marie Potter Keeney (d. April 18, 2015). She was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School with the class of 1965 and attended D.C. General School of Nursing.
She was employed with Arrow United, Friedenshutten Restaurant, the Lovelton Hotel and the Wyalusing Hotel before she joined her husband's, David Burgess, family business, Farm & Home Gas. She and David also worked side by side in their joint business, the Farm & Home Plaza. When you drive past the Farm & Home Plaza on Route 6, you can smile and thank Suky, especially in the spring time when they are in full bloom, for the flowers and the beautiful Bradford Pear trees that she fought so hard to plant and protect.
Suky proudly served the Wyalusing Borough as the Mayor for the past 10 years. She was instrumental in many borough projects, but her greatest accomplishment in this role was the creation of the Creekside Park, which is the only public access to the Wyalusing Creek. She was always very thankful for everyone that helped to create the park and she was looking forward to the next park in town. Suky was the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Mayor's Association for the past five years. She was also a member of the Wyalusing Business Association, the Wyalusing Lions and Lioness Club, and a Board Member with the Chamber of Commerce.
Suky loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She made friends quickly and had many friends, professionally as well as personal. She had her boating friends, her camping friends, her golfing friends, and her all around friends. Suky loved boating and hosted many weekends on her pontoon boat on Keuka Lake. She also enjoyed working for hours in her flower beds.
Suky is survived by her husband, David Burgess, whom she married on May 17, 1978; her children, Dennis Girven (Marie) of Sugar Run, PA, Marci Girven Dake of Wyalusing, PA; her grandchildren, SSG Sarah Girven (Bob Borvan) of Fayetteville, NC, SGT Drew Girven of Fayetteville, NC, Alexander Dake of Wyalusing, PA, and Brandon Dake of Wyalusing, PA; her great-grandson, Cash Borvan; her siblings and spouses, D.
