Thelma Arlene Ney Taluba, age 91, of Laceyville, PA, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, August 21, 2018, at the Gardens at Tunkhannock.
Thelma was born on August 10, 1927 in Tunkhannock, PA the daughter of the late Harry Ney and Ethel Chrispell Ney. Thelma was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School with the Class of 1947. She was the wife of Vincent J. Taluba, who passed away on June 23, 2007. Thelma was a seamstress for many years in the 1970's & 80's in Laceyville, Black Walnut, and Meshoppen.
Thelma was a member of St. Joachim's Roman Catholic Church in Meshoppen, PA, a place where she also taught Sunday School for many years. She loved cooking and baking. She was known for her homemade bread, pies, and cakes especially her chocolate cake with peanut butter icing. Thelma enjoyed working her flower and vegetable gardens. She also liked sewing, knitting, and reading. But most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, who she loved to overindulge and feed.
Thelma is survived by her children, Gertrude "Trudi" Caines of Meshoppen, PA; Frances "Fran" Bell and her husband David Sr. of Meshoppen, PA; John Taluba of Laceyville, PA; Ronald Taluba (Ruth Oliver) of Meshoppen, PA; Dayna Smith and her husband Richard Jr. of Laceyville, PA. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her brother Richard Ney; sister Dorothy Eveland; and sister Anna Welles.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Sheldon Funeral Home in Meshoppen, PA with Father Peter Tran of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joachim's Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
