Thomas J. Caines, Sr. of Springville, PA passed away on Saturday night, August 31, 2024 at The Gatehouse Hospice in Williamsport, PA.

Born on May 18, 1945 in Peckville, PA, he was the son of the late Victor and Anna Fetalovich Caines, Sr.  After attending high school, Thomas found employment with Strait Construction in Meshoppen as a carpenter and would remain with them for the next 25 years.

Thomas was an avid outdoorsman and member of the Meshoppen Gun Club.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking several fishing trips to Canada over the years.  Thomas was also very fond of the work he did at Allied Services in Scranton, helping those who had lost limbs learn to walk with their new prosthetics.  Most of all, Thomas enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Thomas Caines II (Lisa) of Tunkhannock, PA, Laura Manahan (Scott) of New Albany, PA, and Victor Caines (Michelle) of Meshoppen, PA; his siblings, Victor Caines, Jr. (Dorothy) of Grand Rapids, MI, Jack Caines of Meshoppen, PA, Alan Caines (Debbie) of Springville, PA, Lilian Trioney of Jessup, PA, Arlene Garris (Jim) of Montrose, PA, and MaryAnn Coolbaugh of Wysox, PA.

Along with his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Caines; his sister Grace Peters; and his in-laws, Russell Coolbaugh and Sal Trioney.

A memorial service for Thomas will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 Main St., Meshoppen, PA 18630.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the time of service.
