Obituary

Valerie Joan Mills McKay of Jenningsville, PA passed away on Saturday night, October 7, 2023 at Kadima at Lakeside Nursing Home in Harvey's Lake, PA.

Born in Grand Rapids, MI on February 19, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Esther Sargent Mills.  She attended and graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School before attending East Stroudsburg University where she would earn her B.S. and Masters in Education.  Valerie would go on to teach Biology at Pen Aryl High School and Delaware Valley Community College.  She would also work for many other companies during her life including, most recently, serving as Lay Minister for the Sugar Run Presbyterian Church in Wyalusing, PA.

Valerie was an accomplished poet, loving wife, and mother as well as an asset to her community.

Surviving Valerie is her loving husband of 57 years, John McKay (m. September 3, 1966) of Jenningsville, PA; her daughter, Jennifer Lee Dunn (Douglas) of Northampton, PA; her son, Jeffrey McKay (Elennor Kennell) of Philadelphia, PA; and her brother, Douglas Mills (Jill) of Mehoopany, PA.  She is also survived by her three granddaughters; Brooke, Ruby, and Ada, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Valerie is preceded in death by her brothers; Barry, Brian, James, and Roderick.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Valerie's name to "Rock Steady Boxing", 112 River St., Tunkhannock, PA.  Rock Steady Boxing is an excellent resource for people who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.

A Memorial Service for Valerie will be held on a later date at the convenience of the family.
