Vernon G. Canfield, age 73, of Wyalusing, PA (formerly of Moxie) passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.

Vernon was born on September 9, 1947 in Moxie, PA the son of the late Claude (d. 1975) and Hazel Bates Canfield (d. 1993).  He was a graduate of Wyalusing High School with the class of 1965.

After high school Vernon served his county in the US Marine Corps as a Corporal from 1966-1970.  He served a year and 10 months in the Philippines.  After his honorable discharged, he was a school bus driver for Wyalusing Area School District.  He was also employed as a truck driver for P & N Packing and a dump truck driver for Ronca and Sons Construction and Johnson Quarries.

He was a member of the Wyalusing American Legion Post 534.  He was an avid gardener.  He always had enough vegetables to share with his family and friends.  Even when he moved to the Park Place Apartments he still planted a garden.  He enjoyed reading and watching westerns.  He took great pleasure in hunting especially with his granddaughter, Ashley.  He also enjoyed visiting with his friends, notably his friends at the Wyalusing Hotel.

Vernon is survived by his children Leslie Taylor and her husband, Morgan, of Wyalusing, PA and Keegan Canfield and his wife, Ashley, of Wysox, PA; his grandchildren, Ashley Owen and her husband, Justin, of Laceyville, PA; Sierra Peterson of Ulster, PA, Jacob Canfield of Cherry Point, NC, Brennan Canfield of Lackland, TX, Aislynn, Kolten, Avery and Esmae Canfield all of Wysox, PA, and Alyssa Carrington of Warren Center, PA; his great-grandchildren, Taigan and Emberly Owen of Laceyville, PA.  He is also survived by his siblings, Virginia Bell (Joe) of Lake Carey, PA, Duane Canfield of Moxie, PA, and Leila Steele (Alison) of Greene, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Claudia Canfield, Edward Canfield, and Jeanetta Wells and his nephew, Mitchell Winters.

A Military Honor Service will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 1:00 PM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church St., Wyalusing, PA and will be conducted by the members of the Wyalusing American Legion Post 534.  Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Visitation on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 11:00 AM until the time of the Military Honor Service.
