Virginia Edsell Brown, age 76, of LeRaysville, PA passed away at her home on Friday morning, February 2, 2024.
Virginia was born to the late Bernard (d. February 29, 2016) and Alice Jones Edsell (d. October 28, 2002) on September 10, 1947 in Towanda, PA. Growing up in Stevensville, she attended and graduated from Northeast Bradford High School before continuing her education at Ridley's Business School in Binghamton, NY.
After her time at Ridley's, she worked for several local businesses until she took a job as a caseworker with the Department of Human Services and held that position for over 30 years in Bradford and Susquehanna Counties. Virginia enjoyed going on shopping excursions, making ceramics, and sewing.
On June 28, 1969, Virginia married Alden Brown and the two would have celebrated 55 years of marriage this year.
Along with her husband, Alden, Virginia is survived by her daughter, Nioma Bernstein of Ulster, PA; her granddaughter, Gabbrianna Bernstein (Jonathan Maxwell) of Pittsburg, PA; her brothers, Carl Edsell (Mary) of Stevensville, PA, Gene Edsell (Gloria) of Stevensville, PA, and Leo Edsell (Cheryl) of Stevensville, PA; and her sisters, Harriet Payton of Stevensville, PA, and Dawn Bolles (George) of Clapper Hill, PA. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed Taylor of LeRaysville, PA, Bill Payton of Stevensville, PA, Connie and David Lipner of Towanda, PA and Lakeland, FL, Rebecca Smith of Pittston, PA, Diana and Ronnie Schoonover of Laceyville, PA, Mary Lou Smith of Meshoppen, PA, Floyd "Tim" and Sandra Brown of Montrose, PA, Dennis and Linda Brown of Charlotte, NC, and Karen Russick of Lakeland, FL, as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her sister, Oma Taylor; her mother and father-in-law, Floyd Jr. and Doris Brown; her brothers-in-law, Wilbert Brown and Gary Brown; and her sister-in-law, Laura Lee Baker.
A private service and a burial at the Stevens Cemetery will be held on a later date at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia's name to the charity of your choosing.
