Walter B. Potter, age 76, of Lime Hill (Wyalusing), PA, passed away at his home Friday morning, October 17, 2014.
Walt was born on August 8, 1938 in Williamsport, PA the son of the late Rowland W. and Marjorie Rockefeller Potter. He was a graduate of the Williamsport High School Class of 1956. He also attended a two-year vocational school through the Pennsylvania State University.
Walt married the former Nancy Burleigh on May 15, 1960. He was employed by the Burt Williams Oil Company as a truck driver. He then was employed by GTE Sylvania for 32 years in the Metallurgical Department before retiring in 1996. Walt was a member the Future Farmers of America (FFA) during his high school years. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Towanda, PA and was involved in the Men's Fellowship within the church. Walt liked to stay busy whether it was turning wrenches or brush-hogging on his tractor. He was always looking for a reason to be on his tractor. Walt always kept a garden in his backyard at his home on Lime Hill and enjoyed riding bikes with his loving wife.
Besides his wife of 54 years Nancy, Walt is survived by his children April Ubani Hendricks and her husband Alan of Lanham, MD, Mark Potter and his wife Melinda of Greencastle, PA, Hope Jordan of Hampton, VA, and eleven grandchildren. He is also survived his sister Phyllis Thomas of Knoxville, TN; Robert Potter of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Walt is preceded in death by his son Kevin B. Potter whom passed away April 27, 1985.
Funeral services for Walt will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 11:00AM at the Assembly of God Church in Towanda, PA with Reverend Thomas A. Geiger of the church officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Lime Hill Cemetery in Wyalusing, PA. Friends and family may call on Monday, October 20, 2014 from 5:00- 7:00 PM at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church Street, Wyalusing, PA as well as on Tuesday (day of the funeral service) from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the Assembly of God Church in Towanda, PA.
