Wayne Eugene Carter, age 71, of Meshoppen, PA, formerly of the Laceyville area, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, February 28, 2024 at the Allied Services Hospice, in Scranton, PA, where he had been taken earlier in the day.

Wayne was born on April 25, 1952 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Harry W. Carter, who passed away on July 3, 1988, and the late Doris M. Long Carter, who passed away on February 27, 2010. Growing up in Transue, PA, Wayne attended the Elk Lake High School and later graduated from the Wyalusing High School with the class of 1970.

After high school, Wayne was employed at Taylor Beef, in Wyalusing, PA, and for many years he worked in building construction with Roger Canfield. In his later years, he was employed as a quarryman, working for Denny Newhart and later for Tim McGavin.

Wayne was a member of the Goodwill Fire Co., in Laceyville, PA, the Elk Lake American Legion, a member of the SAL, and the Meshoppen Rod and Gun Club. Throughout the years, he enjoyed playing softball for many area teams, and always loved his time that he got to hunting and fishing. For many years, Wayne enjoyed his yearly fishing trips to Canada, with his friends. Wayne was always willing to help with many of the chicken barbeques, at the Rod and Gun Club, the American Legions, the Meshoppen Fire Company as well as the Goodwill Fire Co.

Surviving is his long-time companion, Jane Price, of Meshoppen, PA, his children, Steven Wayne Carter, of Laceyville, PA, Lee Michael Carter, of Lawton, PA, Heather M. Carter, of Laceyville, PA, Jason Alan Carter, of Laceyville, PA, and William Harry Carter, of Harrisburg, PA, as well as 9 grandchildren,  Payton Carter, Landon Carter, Kennedy Carter, Brandon Carter (Johnicca Strozyk), Logan Carter, Lindsay Carter, Jameson Carter, Alyssa Carter, and Reese Carter, and 2 great-grandchildren, Serenity Carter, and Brady Carter. He is also survived by his sister, Marjory Harvey, of Elk Lake, PA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Beside his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Walter "Steve" Harvey.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Wayne on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 12:00 noon at the Meshoppen Rod & Gun Club, 517 Byrd Hill Rd, Meshoppen, PA 18630.  Interment will be take place at a later in the Jersey Hill Cemetery.
