Willard Stephen Docktor, age 89, of Retta, PA passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital from an unexpected illness.
He was born on November 30, 1931 in Richlandtown, PA the son of the late Alex and Jeannette Koysza Docktor. He was a graduate of Quakertown High School with the class of 1950.
Willard grew up on his family's dairy farm in Richlandtown. He excelled at farming and in his senior year of high school, he was awarded the State Star Farmer Award through the Future Farmers Association in 1950. After he married Alice Mae Hinkle, they purchased their own farm outside Richlandtown where they raised pigs and tomato crops. Willard and Alice then moved to Retta, PA where they purchased a dairy farm and continued to operate the farm into his 40's. He was also employed with P & G for 20 years. He was an avid trapper and worked in his stone quarry. Willard and his wife owned and operated Docktor's Treasures and Trees from their house in Retta. Willard would tend to the Christmas trees and Alice would sell her collection of antiques in her shop and at the Apple Wagon Antique Mall in Tunkhannock, PA.
He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Willard was President of the PA Farmers Association and also held many offices with the association.
Willard is survived by four children, Dirk Docktor (Juli) of Mehoppany, PA, Diane Licata (Frank) of Montrose, PA, Dawn Otten (Calvin) of Forkston, PA, and Denise Walsh (Patrick) of Hagerstown, MD; his six grandchildren, Ashlie Docktor of Harleysville, PA, Rachel Docktor of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Nicholas Licata (Carolina) of Lewisberry, PA Andrea Curran (John) of Clifton, NJ, Nicole Otten (Alicia Wegman) of Newport News, VA and Dillon Otten (Kelly Hurst) of Berwick, PA; his four great-grandchildren, Connor and Evan Feick of Harleysville, PA and Isabella and Nicholas Licata of Lewisberry, PA; his sister, Jeanette Shurow of Quakertown, PA; his brother, Robert Docktor of Richlandtown, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Mae Docktor, on January 22, 2021 and two brothers.
Funeral Services for Willard will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at the Jersey Hill Cemetery.
