Smith
September 28, 1934 – July 2, 2021
Mr. William R. "Bill" Smith of, SR 3003, Laceyville, PA (West Auburn), passed away early Friday morning, July 2, 2021, at The Gardens at Tunkhannock, where he was a resident for the last couple of months.
William was born in Sayre, PA, on September 28, 1934, the son of the late Max E. Smith (d. December 18, 1976) and Mollie Marcinkus Smith (d. October 23, 2002). Growing up in the Laceyville area, Bill was a graduate of the Laceyville High School with the class of 1953.
After his graduation, William started working and driving truck for A.B. Cole Trucking in Meshoppen, PA, where he worked for many years. After which he became a dispatcher and truck driver for Haulmark Trucking in Meshoppen, which was also owned by A.B. Cole. For many years, Bill owned and operated his own truck, driving over the road for Penn's Best Trucking, also in Meshoppen, PA.
Throughout his life, his spare time was spent enjoying his time that he got to spend outdoors, working around his farm. Bill also loved tinkering and working on his trucks and tractors, and the many times that were spent with his family. The last few years, Bill got to enjoy many hours spent in "His Chair".
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, the former Janet Benscoter Smith, who he married on May 23, 1958. Bill is also survived by his four children, Pam (Rich) Spencer, of Dallas, PA, Roger Smith, of Laceyville, PA, Sheila Henderson of Alexandria, VA, and Bill Smith of Seaside Heights, NJ, his 4 grandchildren, Jordy Spencer, of Dallas, PA, Brian (Megan) Smith of Waterford twp., MI, Maxxe Spencer, of Dallas, PA, and Blair (April) Smith, of Wyalusing, PA, and two great-grandchildren, Nikolas Spencer, ad Maddy Smith, and two step great-granddaughters, Peighton and Linnea, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bill was also preceded in death by his brother, Max E, Smith Jr.
As it was Bill's wishes, there will be no memorial services or calling hours. Interment will be at the convenience of his family.
Arrangements were made through the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations in his name to the Wyoming County Cancer Society, 8 Iron Wood St, Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
