Winola Allis Stethers, age 88, of Standing Stone, PA passed away Friday morning, November 20, 2015 at the Skilled Nursing Unit at Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital.
Winola was born on July 1, 1927 in Orwell Township, PA the daughter of the late Lyle Lyman and Ina Park Allis. While growing up she helped do chores on her fathers family farm. She graduated from Rome High School with the class of 1945.
In 1947 she married Glenn Francis Stethers and together they worked on Glenn's family farm. They had two children, Richard and Donna, and Winola then became a homemaker to care for her family.
She was a member of the Standing Stone United Methodist Church. She volunteered numerous times at the church dinners. She was also a member of the Towanda and Wyalusing Senior Citizens, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Towanda, and was the neighborhood Avon Lady in her younger years. When her children were younger she was a Den Mother for the LeRaysville Cub Scouts. She loved gardening, crocheting, sewing, and baking. Winola was very proud of how good of an ice skater she was. She also enjoyed working on genealogy projects. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family especially her grandsons and great-grandson.
Winola is survived by her children Richard Lee Stethers of Standing Stone, PA and Donna Stethers Jones and her husband Bobby of Springfield, PA; her grandsons Joseph Barbuto and Anthony Barbuto both of Springfield, PA and Justin Ray Brown of Monroeton, PA; her great-grandson Vincent Barbuto; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 63 years Glenn Francis Stethers, who passed away on August 11, 2010, her brother and his wife Karl K. and Julia Wilbur Allis, her brother in law and his wife Howard and Louise Stethers, and brother in law George Stethers.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the South Hill Cemetery, Orwell Township, PA with Reverend William Westbrook of the Standing Stone United Methodist Church officiating.
